Item 0014: DuBois et Fils Skeletonized Repeater |

|
Magnificent, rare, 18kt rose gold 1/4 hour repeater. |
Magnificent! Fully skeletonized 1/4 hour plunger type repeater by DuBois et Fils. Late 18th, early 19th century.
One of the most famous and active makers. Known for their automotons, seldom found in such a pure skeletonized form.
Approximately 58mm diameter! 18kt rose gold case. Button at 11 opens case back to expose a display cuvette
(original glass was missing, we had a plexy crystal installed). Beneath the cuvette you can view an ornate 2 footed
balance cock, supporting a 3 arm balance, and the intricately carved main spring barrel. A small button next to the
rear lid catch releases the spring loaded cuvette. Original high domed crystal. Center of dial is glass, porcelain
outer chapter ring signed at bottom DuBois et Fils. Very slight hairlines between 3 and 4. Very old, very good, repair
to rear case lid at catch point. Dial is centered by blued steel kite hands. Gilt, highly chiseled movement
with gold (not gilt) wheels. Early cylinder escapement, keeps excellent time! All or nothing repeat.
Strikes fully, a little sluggish on the third quater. Has not been serviced. A rare fantastic piece
for any collection.
